The African-American Scouting Camporee (AASC) is a collaboration of African-American Scouting units in the State of Texas. Boy Scout Troop 118 of First Baptist Church of Hamilton Park is the sponsoring Troop Committee for the 2012 Camporee celebrating over 75 years of African-American Scouting in the State of Texas.
During this camporee, we want to of course honor all Boy Scouts. But we want to give particular homage to the African American men in Scouting and throughout history who have provided remarkable leadership – many of whom are unsung heroes.
Troops, Scouts and Scouters throughout the great State of Texas are invited to celebrate and pay tribute to those early African American leaders who helped to pave a way for minorities and the underserved to participate in the greatest leadership training program on earth - The Boy Scouts of America!
The camporee will be held at Camp Wisdom in Dallas. Camp Wisdom – also known as Boy Scout Camp Billy Sowell - is the oldest Boy Scout camp in Texas. It combines the rustic past of being the oldest Camp in the state to the most updated facilities for Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Venturing. Troops, Scouts and Scouters throughout the great State of Texas are invited to celebrate African Americans in Scouting with us!

The purpose of the African American Scouting Camporee is to provide registered African American Boy Scouts an educational forum to learn life skills from a social and educational awareness perspective. The Camporee will encourage, motivate, and inspire youth participation, retention and advancement in Scouting.
We hope you share in our vision with your kind monetary or in-kind donations to maintain a low cost for Scouts attending the event. Your donation offsets the cost of the event, and can facilitate broader attendance.
